We are proud to announce that the BOSC - bank of supercapitors, developed and manufactured by our company BD SENSORS in Buchlovice in cooperation with EGGO Space from Lanškroun, have been successfully launched into space as part of Airbus´s CO3D satellite mission.
This milestone confirms the reliability and resilience of our company’s products in the most demanding conditions imaginable – in space. The development of this product intended for the demanding commercial “Space” market took several years and was carried out under the professional supervision of experts from the European Space Agency ESA. Special thanks also go to the delegates of the Czech Republic in ESA working at the Department of Space Activities and New Technologies of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, who created excellent conditions for the emergence of this unique product. Based on this success, the company BD SENSORS has received a new order to produce another series of supercapacitor banks for another major space mission of the company Airbus.
BOSC (Bank of Supercapacitors) is an alternative to conventional lithium batteries and is used to power various satellite systems. Compared to traditional batteries, it offers the following main advantages:
• high energy density,
• extreme lifetime,
• instant energy availability,
• weight savings,
• reliable operation even in harsh space environments.
We are proud to contribute to innovative European space projects from our headquarter in Buchlovice and to push the boundaries of satellite power management. In total, 16 supercapacitor banks were deployed on 4 CO3D satellites.
These four CO3D satellites represent the latest generation of compact spacecraft that will map the Earth in 3D from low Earth orbit (about 500 km above the surface). They will serve the needs of both the public and private sectors. Each CO3D satellite weighs approximately 300 kg and will join Airbus’s fleet of optical and radar satellites, enhancing its ability to meet the growing demands of highly challenging applications. These exceptionally agile satellites, which mark the start of a generation of highly innovative and fully electric platforms, will redefine the way images are captured, processed, and transmitted back to Earth.
We are proud that our team and BD SENSORS are part of the most advanced technological solutions in the world – not only on Earth, but also in space.
